Driver and Instructor Training

Instructors

The path to becoming a Driving Instructor can seem daunting when approaching it for the first time. Hopefully you will be assured to know that you will train on a one to one basis with me and not have to share your precious time with 2 or 3 Trainees in the car at the same time as happens with many other training establishments.

There are 3 parts to the Course:-

DSA Approved, ORDIT Registered

Part 1

This involves a Theory Test and Hazard Perception Test. I will supply all of the relevant training books, CD ROM and whatever backup you may require in addition.

Part 2

This involves a driving test, rather like the one you took when you were younger, but this one will involve more manoevers and far fewer mistakes. This training will be conducted on a one-to-one basis with me. Most trainees like to do it in their own car so the practice can be done in the same vehicle. Total time - 16 hrs

Part 3

This involves a test of your Instructorial ability. You will be required to give two ½ hour lessons to the examiner who will play the role of a novice learner and then a more experienced learner or from the early part of 2006, you may be required to give refresher lessons to a driver holding a full licence.

My car is usually best for Part 3 as it has dual controls, but if you have them in your car that is fine. This section is generally the most challenging and the DSA require that you are given at least 20 hours, and that is what most other training schools will give you. I have allocated 36 hours for Part 3 which I hope you will find appealing.

  • Total £2,175
This includes a free 2 hour meeting initially

 Check Tests

If you have a check test coming up, or have any problem you would like to solve, I will be pleased to see you and help in any way that I can.

New Drivers – in Oxford and Swindon

Your path to gaining a full driving license will involve taking two tests:

Test 1 - Theory and Hazard Perception Test.

If you need it, I can supply you with the highway code and CD ROM recommended by the Driving Standards Authority. I will also give you as much or as little help as is necessary for you to get over your first hurdle.

Test 2 - Practical Driving Test

You will be given an eye sight test - which I will have checked on your first lesson. Then you will be required to answer 'Show Me' and 'Tell Me' questions conducted by the examiner - I will have given you a booklet including these on your first lesson. After that, your Practical Test will begin and this will last approximately 40 minutes.

Pass Plus

Having pursued that, many new drivers go on to do a Pass Plus course of approximately 6 hours which normally results in a good discount on your insurance premium.

We recently got two quotes from Zurich and Provident Insurance Companies for a seventeen year old girl driving a Vauxhall Corsa - comprehensive and no "No claims"- and the average saving is slightly more than £750 per annum with Pass Plus. It will also mean you will be a safer driver.

This course includes learning how to drive on motorways.
